Effective exercise
Hydrotherapy, or physio in water, is a fun way for children to improve their rehabilitation and exercise outcomes, with the reduced gravity and buoyancy in the pool assisting a child to do things they may not be able to do on land.
Water provides five times the resistance of air allowing more effective cardiovascular fitness improvement, and helps to strengthen both the limbs and the core simultaneously.
Water supports the body, reducing the impact on joints and muscles while the warm water helps relax muscles, increase blood circulation, and reduces pain and stiffness, creating a comfortable and soothing environment for therapy.
How can Hydrotherapy help my child?
Enhanced Mobility and Flexibility
Hydrotherapy can help improve joint range of motion and muscle flexibility, making it easier for children to move and perform daily activities.
Improved Muscle Strength
The resistance of water helps in building muscle strength without the need for weights or equipment. This can be especially beneficial for children with muscle weakness or developmental delays.
Better Balance and Coordination
Exercises in water can enhance a child’s balance and coordination, skills that are crucial for everyday tasks and activities.
Pain Relief
The warm water and gentle movements in hydrotherapy can help reduce pain and muscle spasms, providing relief for children with chronic pain conditions or hypertonia.
Increased Confidence and Motivation
The fun and supportive nature of water activities can boost a child’s confidence and motivation to participate in therapy. This positive experience can lead to better engagement and outcomes.
Support for Various Conditions
Hydrotherapy is versatile and can be adapted to suit a wide range of conditions, including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, developmental delays, and post-surgical rehabilitation to name just a few.
