What is DMI?
Dynamic Movement Intervention is an intervention used by trained Physiotherapists to treat children with motor delay. It aims to improve automatic postural responses working towards progressing developmental milestones.
This intervention incorporates current research on neurorehabilitation, technologies and methodologies. DMI stimulates neuroplasticity to facilitate new neural connections and development of milestones. DMI therapy works well in conjunction with other therapeutic interventions and equipment. These are often combined in treatment sessions to ensure optimal alignment for the best outcome for your child.
Who is DMI for?
DMI intervention stimulates neuroplasticity in the developing brain, therefore children diagnosed with any type of motor delay including, but not limited to, conditions such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral palsy, developmental delay and chromosomal abnormalities/genetic disorders may benefit from this form of therapy.
How can DMI help my child?
Improved Mobility
DMI therapy can significantly enhance a child’s ability to move and navigate their environment. This can lead to greater participation in school, sports, and social activities.
Enhanced Confidence
As children gain strength and improve their motor skills, they often experience a boost in self-confidence. This newfound confidence can have a positive impact on all areas of their life.
Greater Independence
With improved motor control and coordination, children can become more independent in their daily routines, reducing their reliance on caregivers and increasing their sense of autonomy.
Better Quality of Life
By addressing motor impairments and enhancing physical capabilities, DMI therapy can contribute to a better overall quality of life for children and their families.
Holistic Development
DMI therapy supports not only physical development but also cognitive and emotional growth, as children engage in exercises that challenge their problem-solving skills and perseverance.
